Man Utd came back from there World Club Championship exploits and battled there way to a hard fought three points over Premiership new boys Stoke City. Wayne Rooney had a couple of half chances but it was Carlos Tevez who grabbed the points and kept Uniteds title challenge going. Match report and video below.

Wayne Rooney is in the clear after the FA decided not to pursue his badge kissing against Everton at Goodison Park. Rooney was subsequently taken off by Fergie who later admitted it was for his own good. Wazza was booked for a foul on Arteta and the game became increasingly feisty after Phil Neville hacked down Cristiano Ronaldo, much to the disgust of Rio Ferdinand. But Rooney who despite his brilliance still has some flaws and Fergie was right to bring him off before he got sent off.

Wayne Rooney is back in top form with a man of the match performance against the baggies at Old Trafford. Rooney opened the scoring before Mark Halsey disallowed it for an innocuous push. Wayne Rooney scored United's first goal after being played in by a lovely Ryan Giggs ball before being taken off in the second half after pulling up with ankle trouble. the extent of Rooney's injury is still unclear with United's medical team working overtime after Scholes (knee ligaments) and Rafael also joining Wayne on the treatment table.
